How to Start a Blog for Beginners
We love when Pour Over Love inspires others to start blogs of their own. In the beginning, we did a lot of research in order to create ours. So we know that learning new skills can intimidate. For that reason, we have put together a concise list of materials that we use. These blogging resources have helped us immensely. Therefore, we hope that sharing our favorites will help simplify the website building process for you!
Disclosure: We have posted several affiliate links on this page. If you choose to use one of these blogging resources, we may receive a small percentage compensation.
In order to start your blog, you must first choose your blogging platform. After much research, we decided to use WordPress. This platform inspires versatility and customization. However, when signing up for your platform, make sure to choose WordPress.ORG rather than WordPress.COM. These platforms are completely different, and you’ll want to choose the self-hosted wordpress.org.
Next, you’ll choose a host for your blog. We cannot recommend Siteground enough. When Jessie began blogging for her eco blog, Tiny Yellow Bungalow, she decided to use Bluehost. Unfortunately, she found that it caused many problems for her site. Nonetheless, that means we speak from experience. From better customer service to higher quality features, Siteground delivers in every way. Most importantly, we haven’t had any issues with our website being down due to webhosting issues (this is a common problem with Bluehost).
Currently, we use the Everly Lite WordPress theme for our blog, and it is very user friendly. In order to save a little money in the beginning, we decided to choose a free WordPress theme. Even so, you can opt to upgrade to premium for more features whenever you want. Regardless, we are happy with the free version for now. WordPress offers so many themes, so make sure to sift through as many as you can to find the one you love!
Blog Photography Equipment
If you find a passion for blogging along the way, we can’t stress the importance of high quality images for your blog enough. We use a Nikon DSLR for our blog photos. It’s an excellent camera and definitely worth the investment.
While we love sharing our posts through social media, keeping up with so many platforms can become overly consuming. Thankfully, we found Tailwind, a Pinterest scheduler. Using this program allows you to schedule your blog post pins in advance. Basically, it autopilots your Pinterest account for you. Use this link here to get one month of free Tailwind access to see if you like it as much as we do!
If you decide to take the plunge and cultivate a new blogging project, we would love to hear about it. Share your website with us either through our contact page or through social media. Happy blogging!
